NATIONAL MEMORIAL FOR VICTIMS & SURVIVORS OF INSTITUTIONAL CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
CANBERRA

ARTIST:                      HANNAH QUINLIVAN
GOVT AGENCY:         NATIONAL CAPITAL AUTHORITY

The National Memorial takes its name from the expression ‘to draw breath’. Breath is a metaphor for survival. Breath is life. And for many survivors, deep breathing can help when living with trauma. The proposed design entitled Drawing Breath speaks to the notion of breath, the ripples and eddies of air currents. Structurally, the form will be light yet strong, comprising of gently flowing tendrils – each a long resilient exhale.

Creative Road initiated and managed the artist-led design process in collaboration with Place Design Group, Tilt Industrial Design, Arup, Dark House Design and Lucid Metal Architectural Rendering.
